Emergency VRF Compressor Replacement – Gramercy, Manhattan

A rooftop VRF (variable refrigerant flow) system serving a Manhattan commercial building went down with a failed compressor. We recovered the refrigerant, swapped the compressor on the roof, and documented the job with photos.

What we found

  • A failed compressor in the rooftop VRF outdoor unit, taking the system out of service.
  • Inverter control board and wiring inspected for related faults before the swap.

What we did

  • Recovered the refrigerant from the outdoor unit into a recovery cylinder.
  • Removed the failed compressor and set the replacement.
  • Brazed the connections under a nitrogen purge and pressure-tested the circuit.
  • Evacuated, recharged and verified operation with manifold gauges.

Our recommendation: service rooftop VRF before it fails

Compressors rarely fail without warning. Rising current draw, oil and charge problems and repeat board faults show up on a planned maintenance visit long before they become a shutdown.

We can set up scheduled VRF maintenance for your roof, with a written photo report after each visit. If a unit is already down, call us at (646) 946-5584.
